The quality of the leadpipe dramatically affects a trumpet sound and intonation, as well as the volume of air required to produce a good sound. Each Blackburn leadpipe is hand-crafted, with special detail paid to the size and shape of the tapers, to produce an efficient, free-blowing instrument that is easy to play in tune, says Cliff Blackburn, owner of Blackburn Trumpets. The 800 Series features a .459-inch bore with a 4.78-inch hand-hammered bell designed for optimum projection.
